Baked Sushi Lovers, Meet Your Queen.

Have you tried the first ever trending pandemic-meal? Yeah. I called it pandemic-meal since people went coo-coo for it during the lockdown.

Since the Baked Sushi went viral everyone wanted to try one, or two… or more! And I am one of those people. I go gaga over any delicious sushi snack. Thank goodness it’s here to stay!

In addition to that exciting news, I want to intriduce to you the Queen of Baked Sushi, Salmon HQ.

Salmon HQ used to be known for their trays of big, fresh, juicy salmon but now, they have made a name for themselves when it comes to Baked Sushi. 

Salmon HQ has three types of baked sushi, the Crunchy California Sushi Bake, the Aburi Salmon Scallops Ebi Sushi Bake, and the Uni Scallops Aburi Sushi Bake. 

The Crunchy California Sushi Bake is the most glorious California Maki that you will ever have. It is a bigger version of the usual California Maki but made 100x better because it’s baked and it’s filled to the brim of all the trimmings that come with maki but is normally served in small doses. 

The Aburi Salmon Scallops Ebi Sushi Bake, on the other hand, is the creamiest and most savory baked sushi that you will get your mouth on. It’s filled to the brim with so much goodness that you won’t be able to finish even a small pan in one sitting. Overflowing with sumptuous goodness is a usual description.

The Uni Scallops Aburi Sushi Bake is filled with sweet and briny uni, premium kani, uni cream sauce, seasoned rice, and topped with  scallops, uni, crunch & ebiko then torched to bring out the sweet smoky aroma and umami flavors.  Eat it with seaweeds or on its own!

Discovered a Gram-worthy Healthy Milk Tea Shop

Milk tea is so in trend right now. I don’t drink milk tea that much because I know it’s not as healthy as drinking coffee, but whenever I see a new stand or a shop that serves milk tea I get curios, especially if it is a place that also serves healthy drinks. Kind of like this new place I found out about. Although they serve milk tea too, theirs is a lot different.

Good Good PH is a milk tea brand that originated from Taiwan and in 2019, they started offering milk teas that are made with fresh cow’s milk here in the Philippines.

Besides milk tea, they are also serving fruit teas, hot teas, bubble milk tea, assorted teas with cream cheese, smoothies, and even juices.

Nowadays, when building a shop, you must take a lot of time in making it Instagram-worthy. Good Good PH really did a good job in their interior design.

I’m always fond of an interior that’s filled with mixed wood and metal materials. It’s simple and elegant-looking and it somehow gives a calm feeling.

Not only the materials chosen are lovely but the way they incorporated and positioned it together looks pleasing.

They even made a creative accent wall that is perfect for selfies, groufies and product shoots backgrounds.

This corner (image on the right) right here is the best place to pose with or without their product(s). It’s so cute.

You have a simple pink-ish background with their metal carved hashtag and an artistic white and black wall contrasting on the other side.

Oh! and look at that floating wood bar table and those cute wood and metal cocktail chairs.

Alright, I think I’ve said enough about the look of the shop but what about the things they serve, right?

Obviously I tried their drinks. I did a taste test of the drinks that were featured on my vlog (embedded below).

But I must say that Red Zen Tea is one of my favorites. It is a mix of dragonfruit and lychee.

It tastes unique and delicious, in my opinion. I know the fruit mix seems weird but it actually is a good mixture.

Dragon fruit is high in nutrients and fiber, but it is low in calories but packed with essential vitamins and minerals. It also contains a substantial amount of dietary fiber.

A Lychee on the other hand is is a rich source of nutrient that is required for the production of blood. It also contains good amount of antioxidant Vitamin C, Vitamin B-complex and more.

Is that enough info to make you grab your phone and order their healthy drinks? Nope? Okay well you might want to read another article that I wrote (click here) to know more about the drinks that they can offer. Maybe that blog can convince you to order. But here’s a copy of their menu.

Daily “ulam” recipes with Jolly Mushroom

MUSH CHICKEN AFRITADA

Ingredients

1 can (400g) JOLLY Whole Mushrooms 400g, drained

1 tablespoon oil

½ kilogram chicken, cut into 8 pieces

1 piece onion, chopped

4-5 gloves garlic, minced

2-3 pieces bay leaves

1 piece carrots, cut into cubes

1 piece green bell pepper – sliced diagonally

1 cup tomato sauce

1 cup water

1 teaspoon ground pepper

1 teaspoon fish sauce

2 teaspoons Jolly Tomato Paste

Procedure

  1. Heat oil in a pan. Pan-fry chicken for 10-15 minutes or until brown. Remove excess oil.

  2. Add onion, garlic and bay leaves. Sauté until fragrant.

  3. Add JOLLY WHOLE MUSHROOMS, carrots, green bell pepper, tomato paste, tomato sauce, water, ground pepper and fish sauce. Stir well.

  4. Let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes or until chicken is tender. Add water if the sauce becomes too thick.

Number of servings: 7-8 servings

MUSH PORK ADOBO

Ingredients

1 can (400g) JOLLY Whole Mushrooms, drained

½ kilogram pork belly, adobo cut (about 2 inches thick)

2-3 tablespoons oil

1 piece onion, chopped

1 head garlic, minced

1/2 cup soy sauce

1/4 cup vinegar

1 cup water

1 teaspoon peppercorns

2 pieces bay leaf or laurel leaf

Procedure

  1. Heat oil in a pan. Pan-fry pork for 10-15 minutes or until pork is light brown on all sides. Remove excess oil.

  2. Add onion and garlic, sauté until fragrant.

  3. Add JOLLY WHOLE MUSHROOMS, soy sauce, vinegar, water, peppercorns and bay leaves; let it simmer for 30-45 minutes. Add water if it becomes too dry.

  4. Add. Continue simmering until pork is tender and sauce is reduced. Adjust seasoning if needed.

Number of servings: 6-8 servings

Before we consume food, we always have to carefully check its quality and that’s what I did before cooking it. To my surprise, it appeared fresh, given the fact that it was delivered to me all the way from Southern Mindanao. It didn’t have a foul smell too.

I expected the Bangus to smell and taste very fishy, but it wasn’t. It is far from the ones that came from the Fisheries.

The first one we cooked was their Marinated Milkfish. Eventhough it’s marinated for a long time, the volume of the sauce used to marinate it with wasn’t so strong, it didn’t taste sour. It has the right amount of richness of taste. The fish was fat I loved it.

The Legendary John Lloyd Cruz’s Tasty Comeback

One of the Pinoy’s ultimate crush, John Lloyd Cruz has been hiatus from showbusiness since 2017, but still not completely invisible to the public eye; for photos and videos of him circulates on all the media platforms.

JL Cruz is one of the most fit actors in the Philippine cinema and a powerful endorser. he, once again proved that his fans are craving for his return. In a teaser video, which lasted only for a few seconds and only shows the back shot of Cruz’s, and posted in the Facebook page of the number one selling shawarma Turks a few weeks ago had been viewed 3.2M times, shared almost 800 times and gained a huge number of comments.

Without any knowledge in that teaser video, his fans assumed that it was the matinee idol who was featured in that video. Famous Filipina actress, Bea Alonzo on her Instagram also posted a screenshot of that teaser video, which garnered almost a million lovely reactions.

Just this Monday morning Turks finally revealed in the 1-minute and 17 seconds video of Cruz showing the actor walking through different destinations, which somehow depicts Cruz’s sojourn. The video is very simple, yet there’s drama the way it was created, and in a very subtle shot, he stopped and took a bite of a Turks pita donner.

The rugged look of Cruz in the Turks video titled Ang Pagbabalik is way too far from his guy-next-door image and a lot of people in the industry are asking if this signals his return to the limelight. His fans are still wondering about the life he’s been living since his hiatus.

According to Turks president Gem, L. Zenarosa that during the course of his talks with Cruz, they never talked anything about his showbiz career or plans. He added that he got Mr. Cruz as the latest ambassador of Turks because of his great confidence working with Cruz.

“I am really grateful that John Lloyd trusts our company, he is a brilliant and very creative young man. Aside from acting we have discovered some of his remarkable talents,” Zenarosa stressed.

The ‘Ang Pagbabalik’ according to Zenarosa is actually about Turks Small Pita Doner, which will be available again in all its branches.

Some time after the release of Cruz’s endorsement video, Turks also released to the market its newest offering — Turks Rice Bowl, which is a complete meal. You can choose beef or chicken for your rice topping, and it is priced at P50. The Small Pita Donner on the other hand, is priced at P35.

One Sunday I, together with my fiancée & my son went to SM North to eat dinner. Of course we looked for a restaurant where we haven’t eaten yet. What got our attention was Pedro ‘N Coi because of the cool waiter. We asked him “Nagtatanggap po kayo ng card? (Do you accept card payment?).” “Yes sir. We accept payments via card, master card. Kahit anong card wag lang SM advantage card. (Any kind o cards except for SM advantage card.)” he answered with a witty smile on his face, then we and the other waiter laughed. We checked the menu and noticed that it’s affordable and unique.

So, yes, we ate there. We thought it might be a cool place to eat. Well, we were right.

FOOD
What’s fun is that whenever they serve their best seller – Sizzling Sisig, the server will shout “SIZZLING SISIIIIIG!” and the rest of the staff will answer “AWWW!”… they have this type of ‘gimik’ for the other meals too. If you’ll read their menu, you’ll get so much entertained with how they named their food and beverages.

Most of the meals are good for sharing and I love the fact that they had fun creating names for their menu

I highly recommend Pudding ni Donya Buding. Unique and it taste great! It is a homemade bread pudding drizzled with caramel and crush candy peanuts, served with cheese ice cream.

AMBIANCE
The energy of the all of the staff are amazing, very friendly staff and they also joke around. The music inside is mostly 90s to 2000s OPM music. Which is great to hear, and it matches the resto’s theme.

Inside is a bit narrow and they have an area where you’ll sit inside a jeepney-like couch. They have delivered their concept very well with the interiors and designs.

It has a chill vibe, nostalgic and it’s family friendly.
